Infinifactory is an upcoming sandbox puzzle game by Zachtronics, the creators of SpaceChem and Infiniminer. Both games are available for Linux and hopefully Infinifactory will be too. Last year saw the release of Great Permutator, which was released on Steam last month and currently in alpha Factorio is already gaining a strong following. The factory puzzle genre, though seemingly obscure, seems to have had something of a resurgence in popularity lately. I thought a fantasy game in that style would work really really well, so I tried to implement a simple first person engine in that style Building was fun, but there wasn’t enough variation, and the big red/blue blocks were pretty horrible. ![]() I played it in multiplayer for a while and had a blast, but found it flawed. My god, I realized that that was the game I wanted to do. Infiniminer has been almost completely overshadowed by the hugely popular Minecraft but played an important role in the history of the latter as this notch quote shows: Infiniminer is known as the game that inspired Minecraft and this upcoming game looks like it will draw elements from both SpaceChem and Infiniminer. Last week Zachtronics, the developer of SpaceChem and Infiniminer, announced their upcoming game Infinifactory.
